Silencio is a Parisian club created by director David Lynch, which doesn’t mean a whole lot to me but is probably very impressive to everyone I know who’s cooler than me (that’s a lot of people). I was told there’s no other club like it in France and it’s the most exclusive place in Paris. Silencio is open to members (a membership costs anywhere from 750 to 2,000 Euros) and friends of members only. No need to wait on line because there just won’t be one. Comment dit on “Say whaaaa?” 

So how did I end up there? Saturday night a friend’s friend’s band was playing there and the guys were nice enough to put me on the list (never been able to say that before) and I have to say…the hype is pretty dead on. I wish I had thought to take pictures, but I was too busy soaking everything in. The lights were dim, the people were beautiful and there was almost a tangible atmosphere of free-spirited play. Despite my visible amazement at every corner I turned (the building is incredible) and the very pedestrian dress I wore, everyone I spoke to was friendly. Bonus points to each person who laughed at my one French joke. 

I’m holding onto a piece of inadvertent advice given to me by the man working the coat check. When I first arrived to Silencio, I was pretty flustered from getting incredibly lost late in Paris and it must have read on my face. Before the man took my jacket he insisted I smile and then said “You’re much more beautiful when you smile. Smile because you are young and you are here.” 

I am young and I am here and I am determined to savor each morsel of all of that.
